A China-South Korea business forum was held in Beijing on Jan. 5, bringing together around 400 government officials, business leaders and experts from both countries. Co-hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), the event aimed to explore new avenues for bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
展开剩余74%South Korean President Lee Jae-myung attended and addressed the opening ceremony. His four-day state visit to China, running from Sunday to Wednesday, marks his first trip to the country since taking office in June and the first by a South Korean president since 2019.
Lee was accompanied by a delegation of around 200 South Korean business leaders. Top executives from major South Korean companies attended, including Lee Jae-yong, chairman of Samsung Electronics; Chung Eui-sun, executive chair of Hyundai Motor Group; and Koo Kwang-mo, chairman and CEO of LG Group. Representatives from leading Chinese companies such as Sinopec, Tencent and CATL also attended.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Ren Hongbin, chairman of the CCPIT. Ren said the organization is ready to work with its South Korean counterparts to build cooperation platforms and provide services to support the stable development of China-South Korea economic and trade ties.
Chey Tae-won, chairman of the KCCI and SK Group, highlighted the strong participation of the Chinese business community in last year's APEC CEO Summit in South Korea. He said South Korean business organizations will actively support this year's summit in China.
In an interview on the sidelines of the forum, Li Dongsheng, chairman of TCL Technology Group, said Chinese and South Korean companies have broad opportunities to collaborate on technological innovation and industrial supply chains. He emphasized that geographic proximity enhances efficiency and reduces costs, and that President Lee's visit with a large business delegation would help create new opportunities for cooperation.
During the forum, entrepreneurs from both countries discussed manufacturing innovation, supply chain cooperation, emerging consumer markets and services sector collaboration. Networking and matchmaking activities followed.
